Luke 8:11-15

Luke 8:11-15
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away. 14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. 15 As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.

When I read this verse it reminds me of my friends that have grown up in the church with me. The amount of people I went to church, youth group, and Christian school that are walking with the Lord are slim. When these kids grow up in the truth, they must get some sort of conviction when they are walking in the world, right? Everyone that lives a life in a bubble wants to dip their foot into the world. I mean I did. I wanted to see what alcohol tasted like and what the world had to offer but thankfully I just tested the waters and did not dive in. The enemy came into the minds of my friends with lies that deceived them. They are the ground whose seeds fell on the rock. They grew up in church but are not rooted in the word of God. When temptations came there way they fell. There have been times when I have had to stop and pray for them and encourage them in love. It is hard but they are thankful when they see that I love and care for them. Confronting brothers and sisters is hard but necessary. I was once this kind of ground but since surrendering my life to Christ I am now in the category of the seed that grows on good soil. My convictions brought me out of darkness. But it’s still difficult. Temptations come my way everyday. God is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted beyond our ability. This section of scripture is convicting but also encouraging.

Application: tonight I am going to pray for my friends who I grew up with that have drifted away.
