Hebrews 13:17

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

When people tell us to do something, it shouldn't be with grumbling but with joy. I need to remember this. So often I can see that it is servant time and complain but I know it is beneficial to me and to the body. God gives us authority for a reason. When we submit to authority it teaches us obedience which is pleasing to the Lord. God places certain people in our lives to be authority over us. We can learn from these people because one day we will be authority over others. We could be teachers, parents, or leaders in the church. Submission is the first step to obedience. The picture of submission in the Bible is marriage. Wives are to submit to their husbands and husbands to the Lord. This picture refers to Christ and the church. The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. Christ’s love for the church is shown with this picture of marriage. When we are not in obedience we are not growing in the Lord but falling back.

Application: I am going to try to be on time for classes this week in obedience.
